The client, CFO of an Italian multinational, was horrified to be told by the CEO after a briefing with journalists: “Mmm. I thought your English was better than that!”
In our coaching sessions in Rome, we found that the client’s English was perfectly fine. Instead, she needed to structure answers more clearly and concisely, and provide more convincing answers. Smile a bit. Using video analysis, the client was able to improve non-verbal skills such as voice projection, sound, speed and body language. She also reflected on what information to leave in and what to leave out, and how to maintain effective control in a crowded press conference.
The client received no further comments on either her English or her communication style!
